Pasay City — Yawaragi of Hotel Okura Manila at Newport World Resorts introduces The Art of Matcha Afternoon Tea, a new curated dining experience inspired by the mindfulness and craftsmanship of Japanese tea culture.

Available daily from 2:30 PM to 5:30 PM, the afternoon tea set explores the versatility of matcha through a selection of savory creations and refined pastries conceptualized by Senior Pastry Chef Vi Serrano.

Drawing inspiration from the Japanese tea ceremony, the experience highlights balance, restraint, and intentionality — values deeply rooted in Japanese hospitality and culinary tradition.

“The concept was heavily influenced by the Japanese tea ceremony, where every detail is intentional and calming,” said Chef Serrano. “There is a sense of mindfulness, balance, and appreciation for craftsmanship that we wanted our guests to feel throughout the afternoon tea experience.”

The menu begins with savory selections including Matcha Chawanmushi with Matcha Maldon Salt, Matcha Blini with Smoked Salmon, and Wagyu Slider on Matcha Brioche, offering guests an introduction to matcha’s subtle umami notes beyond traditional desserts.

Complementing the savory course are pastries and sweets such as the Matcha Opera Cake, Matcha Nama Chocolate, and the Genmaicha Cream Profiterole, which combines toasted rice flavors with the earthy richness of matcha and white chocolate.

To create a more balanced palate, the afternoon tea also incorporates complementary Japanese ingredients including yuzu, azuki red bean, kinako, kuromitsu, strawberry, and genmaicha.

“We wanted guests to leave feeling calm, comforted, and inspired,” Chef Serrano added. “The experience was designed to feel like a quiet pause from everyday life — thoughtful and memorable without feeling overwhelming.”

Priced at PHP 2,150++ for two persons, The Art of Matcha Afternoon Tea includes a choice of tea or coffee and is available daily at Yawaragi.
