The country’s premier celebration of Japanese beverages and culture once again drew Manila’s discerning food-and-drink enthusiasts as Sake Manila 2026 staged a sold-out return at Okada Manila on May 22.
Held at the resort’s Forbes 5-star Grand Ballroom from 5 p.m. until midnight, the annual affair welcomed more than a thousand guests for an immersive evening of premium sake, Japanese spirits, culinary artistry, and cultural experiences. Tickets, priced at ₱6,000, granted guests unlimited access to an expansive selection of beverages and gourmet food pairings throughout the night.
Now on its third consecutive year at Okada Manila, Sake Manila has firmly established itself as one of the Philippine social calendar’s most anticipated luxury lifestyle events. The gathering once again sold out its intentionally limited capacity, allowing guests a more refined and comfortable experience within the venue.
Organized by Philippine Wine Merchants in partnership with Okada Manila, this year’s edition elevated the experience further with more than 200 carefully curated bottles of premium sake, many of which were rare, small-batch, and limited-edition labels flown in directly from Japan and unavailable in the local retail market.
Among the highlights of the evening was the introduction of highly regarded sake labels Daishichi, Nanbubijin, Suegei, and Koshino Kanbai to Filipino consumers, reflecting the growing sophistication and appreciation for Japanese beverages in the Philippines.
Expanding beyond sake, over 40 exhibitors showcased an impressive portfolio of Japanese whiskies, artisanal gins, shochu, umeshu, craft beers, and Japanese wines. Guests sampled premium spirits including artisanal gin labels Wabi and Mawsim, alongside popular Japanese craft beer brand Coedo.
Complementing the beverage showcase was an elaborate one-night-only culinary presentation led by Okada Manila Culinary Director Chef Josef Teuschler and his team. Live stations featuring sushi, premium steaks, tempura, yakitori, and other Japanese specialties transformed the ballroom into an epicurean playground designed specifically for sake appreciation.
Each dish was intentionally curated to enhance the flavor profiles of the beverages served, highlighting the versatility of sake through unconventional yet sophisticated pairings such as premium cheeses matched with sparkling, unpasteurized, and warm sake varieties.
Beyond the tastings, Sake Manila 2026 offered guests a rare opportunity to interact directly with some of Japan’s celebrated master brewers or “Toji,” who shared insights into traditional brewing techniques, rice-polishing methods, and the craftsmanship behind every bottle.
The evening also delivered a vibrant multi-sensory experience that blended Japanese tradition with Manila’s contemporary nightlife energy. Festivities opened with a dramatic tuna-slicing ceremony accompanied by traditional Japanese musical performances before transitioning into lively DJ sets that carried the celebration late into the evening.
With its growing scale, exclusive offerings, and immersive cultural experiences, Sake Manila continues to redefine luxury beverage events in the Philippines while strengthening appreciation for Japan’s rich culinary and brewing heritage.
