For the first time in its storied history, the prestigious Mabuhay Awards will be held at a convention center—SMX Convention Center Manila, ushering in a milestone collaboration between the Association of Human Resources Managers in the Hospitality Industry (AHRM) and SM Hotels and Convention Corporation (SMHCC)

“This is a very proud moment for us,” said Walid Wafik, Senior Vice President for Operations of SMHCC, during his welcome remarks at the launching last month. “We are honored to host this year’s Mabuhay Awards in one of our premier venues. It’s more than just an event—it’s a celebration of Filipino excellence in hospitality.”

Wafik also shared his personal connection to the Mabuhay Awards, recalling how the energy and joy of the ceremony first drew him in as an audience member years ago. “I may be originally from Egypt, but the Mabuhay Awards made me feel right at home. There’s nothing like seeing the joy on the faces of the nominees—whether they win or not, it’s a celebration of their spirit,” he said.

A golden celebration of leadership and service

To be held on November 14, this 2025 edition of the Mabuhay Awards marks its 28th year, made even more meaningful as it coincides with AHRM’s 50th anniversary.

“A dream come true,” declared Divine Delos Reyes, AHRM President, referring to the partnership with SMX. “This is the perfect venue to celebrate a golden year of leadership, service, and Filipino hospitality excellence.”

In her keynote message, Delos Reyes emphasized the significance of the Mabuhay Awards as more than just a recognition program: “They are a testament to the unwavering commitment, tireless effort, and world-class talent that define Filipino hoteliers.”

She continued, “This is a call to elevate, to inspire, and to truly appreciate the heart of Filipino hospitality. We believe that by recognizing our most outstanding frontliners and leaders, we also inspire the next generation to pursue careers in hospitality with pride and ambition.”

Evolving legacy

From its origins in 1984 as the “Gawad Lingkod” Awards, the Mabuhay Awards underwent rebranding in 1995, eventually evolving into today’s benchmark of distinction in Philippine hospitality. The initiative has since become a platform to spotlight the dedication and resilience of industry professionals—particularly those who go above and beyond in front-of-house, heart-of-house, supervisory, managerial, and HR leadership roles.

During the launch, the AHRM also introduced its newly crafted vision, mission, and core values—the result of its recent strategic planning session: The Vision to be the leading association of HR professionals that promotes equal competence and well-being; its Mission to promote professional development and personal growth through purposeful initiatives such as recognition, education, networking, and volunteerism; as well as its Core Values, purpose, passion, integrity, inclusivity, innovation, and sustainability.

“These values are more than just words—they are embedded in our DNA as HR practitioners,” Delos Reyes affirmed.
