The Philippines’ luxury hospitality landscape is set for a major development as IHG Hotels & Resorts announced the return of its flagship luxury brand, InterContinental Hotels & Resorts, to the Philippine capital.

The company has signed an agreement to develop InterContinental Manila, a 212-room luxury hotel scheduled to open in 2032 in Bonifacio Global City, Metro Manila’s premier business and lifestyle district.

The new property marks the long-awaited return of the InterContinental brand to Manila more than 15 years after the closure of the original hotel, which opened in 1969 and operated for 46 years as one of the city’s most recognized luxury addresses.

According to Vivek Bhalla, Managing Director for Southeast Asia and Korea at IHG, the reintroduction reflects strong confidence in the Philippines’ long-term tourism and hospitality growth.

“Reintroducing InterContinental to Manila is a wonderful milestone and a perfect fit for the city, which has strong long-term fundamentals and increasing demand for luxury travel,” Bhalla said. “This signing reinforces our commitment to expanding our Luxury & Lifestyle presence across the Philippines and the wider region.”

Located within the 240-hectare mixed-use district of Bonifacio Global City—home to multinational companies, the Philippine Stock Exchange, and some of Metro Manila’s most prominent developments—the hotel will cater to both business and leisure travelers.

Plans for the property include an all-day dining restaurant, a signature specialty restaurant and bar, extensive meeting and event facilities with ballroom and function spaces, as well as wellness amenities such as a health club, spa, and outdoor swimming pool with poolside bar.

The project will be developed in partnership with Philippine property firms Keyland Corporation, Philippine Realty and Holdings Corporation, and Greenhills Properties Inc..

Jose Ma. Montinola, President of Keyland Corporation, described the collaboration as an opportunity to revive the brand’s legacy while introducing a new standard for luxury hospitality in the capital.

“Partnering with IHG to bring a globally recognised brand such as InterContinental back to Manila is an exciting new chapter. We are proud to help deliver a stand-out hotel that honours the brand’s legacy while setting a new benchmark for luxury stays in the city,” he said.

The upcoming hotel will join a global network of more than 240 InterContinental hotels and resorts worldwide. The brand is also preparing to celebrate its 80th anniversary, continuing its legacy as one of the world’s most established luxury hotel brands.

For Manila’s hospitality sector, the return of InterContinental signals renewed confidence in the city’s ability to attract high-end international travelers and reinforces its position as a growing destination for luxury hospitality investment.
