Destileria Limtuaco Co., Inc. (DLCI), the oldest distillery in the Philippines, has introduced a bold and bubbly twist to its iconic Filipino brand, Maria Clara Sangria. The newest drop is Maria Clara Sparkling Sangria, packaged in a sleek 330-ml aluminum can.
This fizzy variant combines the signature sweet red wine and citrus notes of the classic sangria with a vibrant sparkle, bringing a fresh energy to every sip. Light, lively, and perfect for any occasion—whether enjoyed straight from the fridge, over ice, or sipped directly from the can.
“We decided to create a new variant to appeal to the younger generation,” said Olivia Limpe-Aw, President of DLCI, in an interview with Hospitality News PH. “Maria Clara Sangria has been a beloved brand for 40 years and a staple at Filipino gatherings. My children, who are part of the sixth generation, suggested introducing a fizzy version to cater to the younger demographic,” she explained.
True to its spirit of innovation, the Maria Clara brand has consistently evolve with the times. During the COVID-19 pandemic, it launched Maria Clara Virgin Sangria, a 0% alcohol variant for those who wanted the same rich experience, sans the buzz.
In 2024, DLCI expanded its inclusivity mission with Maria Clara Punch, the first halal-certified sangria-inspired beverage in the Philippines, created to serve the Muslim community. Now in 2025, the celebration continues with their latest innovation: Maria Clara Sparkling Sangria—fun, fizzy, and fruity with 7% alcohol and an effervescent twist. Bold yet light, refreshingly modern, and effortlessly convenient.
“Although my three sons are involved in the business, it was my second and the youngest, Aaron and Brandon, who really pushed for this,” Limpe-Aw shared. “I’m happy they’re involved, and they want to introduce something to their age group. We have to evolve, or else we become dinosaurs.”
Limpe-Aw also revealed that it took them two years of R&D for the product development. “We really didn’t do carbonated drinks before, so we invested in machines for carbonation, the canning equipment, the packaging and design.”
Maria Clara Sparking Sangria is currently available at 7-Eleven stores nationwide, with plans to roll it out in supermarkets soon.
“I take pride in supporting local products and businesses. I am a strong advocate for Philippine-made products,” she added.
The latest drop was officially unveiled on June 10, 2025, amidst a festive atmosphere at the Azadore Restaurant in Quezon City.
With the tagline, Sparkle and Slay, the new generation Maria Clara is reimagined for those unafraid to stand out, shake things up and toast to life on their own terms.
No corks. No fuss. Just pop, sip, and sparkle.
Destileria Limtuaco & Co., Inc. is also behind world-class Filipino spirits such as White Castle Whisky, El Hombre Tequila Flavored Spirit, and Napoleon VSOP Brandy.
