SM Hotels and Conventions Corporation (SMHCC), owner and operator of Park Inn by Radisson Bacolod, continues to strengthen its sustainability agenda through circular economy programs that create real community impact.

Leading the initiative is the hotel’s Biodiesel Project, which transforms used cooking oil into clean-burning fuel. Launched in 2024, the program has grown into a model of how hospitality, government, and private sector partnerships can turn waste into valuable resources.

In its latest milestone, the hotel, together with the Congressional Office of Representative Albee Benitez, donated 200 liters of biodiesel to residents of Barangay Singcang. This brings total donations since launch to 2,600 liters—helping support local fisherfolk livelihoods amid rising fuel costs.

The project is implemented with technical partner Green Solutions, led by Engr. Ian Fred Solas, ensuring collected oil is converted into fuel instead of becoming waste.

“Sustainability is no longer a choice but a necessity,” said Reljun Oloroso, Director of People & Culture and sustainability champion of the hotel. “Through strong partnerships, we can transform waste into a resource that benefits both communities and the environment.”

Further highlighting its efforts, the Bacolod City Government invited the hotel to showcase its programs at the Panaad sa Negros Festival. Featured initiatives include: Biodiesel project, converting waste oil into fuel; Tela Tales that upcycle retired linens into new products while creating livelihood opportunities; and converting food waste into compost through Bokashi Method,

As the only hotel in Negros with the Hotel Sustainability Basics certification, Park Inn by Radisson Bacolod reflects SMHCC’s commitment to responsible hospitality.

“At SM Hotels and Conventions Corporation, we see sustainability as a shared responsibility that extends beyond our properties and into the communities we serve,” said Leah Magallanes, Vice President for Quality and Sustainability at SM Hotels and Conventions Corporation.

Through initiatives like these, SMHCC continues to champion a greener and more resilient hospitality industry where innovation, sustainability, and community growth go hand in hand.
