Park Inn by Radisson North EDSA has proudly announced its partnership with Diversey’s PlasticShreds Sustainable Program, establishing a groundbreaking alliance in the ongoing battle against plastic pollution. This collaboration sets a significant milestone in the country’s hospitality industry and demonstrates the hotel’s commitment to environmental sustainability.
On June 20, 2023, esteemed stakeholders witnessed the official inauguration of this remarkable partnership. Among the attendees were Stefan Phang, the Global Director of ESG & Creating Shared Value at Diversey, Inc., accompanied by the Diversey team, Ann Olalo, the General Manager of Park Inn by Radisson North EDSA, and her dedicated team. Chef Leah Magallanes, Vice President of Quality & Sustainability at SM Hotels and Conventions Corp., also graced the event, underscoring the broad support and recognition for this pioneering collaboration.
Expressing his enthusiasm, Stefan Phang exclaimed, “PlasticShreds is the latest Diversey program that Park Inn by Radisson North EDSA, Philippines has embraced. Previously, Diversey and Park Inn by Radisson North EDSA worked together on Soap For Hope, which repurposes used hotel guests’ soaps into new soap bars, and Linens For Life, which transforms end-of-life hotel linen into valuable products such as face masks, school uniforms for children, kitchen aprons, tote bags, soft toys, and more. These programs not only protect the environment by diverting tons of hotel discards from landfills, incinerators, and oceans but also uplift local communities by enhancing their livelihoods and providing essential items like soaps and face masks. We are thrilled to have Park Inn by Radisson North EDSA as a strong partner in our sustainability initiatives. Their commitment to PlasticShreds and other CSV programs has enabled the hotel to achieve the Hospitality Sustainability Basics certification well ahead of the deadline.”
Park Inn by Radisson North EDSA General Manager Ann Olalo shared her thoughts on the collaboration, stating, “We are deeply committed to operating a responsible and sustainable business as part of Radisson Hotel Group’s Responsible Business and Hotel Sustainability Basics initiatives. Partnering with Diversey on various sustainable programs aligns perfectly with our values, and this latest synergy signifies our dedication to reducing single-use plastics and minimizing our environmental impact in the local community. We plan to repurpose these shredded plastic chips into aesthetically pleasing planter boxes and miniature pots for use in the hotel and as guest amenities.”
The launch of PlasticShreds, along with other community programs implemented in partnership with Diversey, strongly contributes to fulfilling the criteria outlined in Hotel Sustainability Basics, the verified level of essential hotel sustainability that all Radisson Hotel Group properties are mandated to comply with by 2024. Inge Huijbrechts, Global Senior Vice President Sustainability at Radisson Hotel Group, commended the Park Inn by Radisson North EDSA for its outstanding efforts, stating, “As a winner of the 2022 company award for Responsible Business, the Park Inn by Radisson North EDSA stands as one of our best-in-class hotels, exemplifying our commitment to Think People, Think Community, and Think Planet.”
This groundbreaking partnership between Park Inn by Radisson North EDSA and Diversey’s PlasticShreds Sustainable Program sets an inspiring precedent for the hotel industry in the Philippines and showcases the power of collaboration in driving meaningful change. By championing environmental sustainability, the hotel is not only securing a brighter future for generations to come but also raising the bar for responsible and conscientious
