A perfect getaway for those seeking a quick escape from Metro Manila must be a place for both relaxation and adventure within a natural setting – which can all be found and experienced at La Jolla Luxury Hotel and Resort.

The four-hour drive from Manila to the Municipality of Bagac in the Province of Bataan, where the 150-hectare hotel and resort is located, is sure to delight guests. Whether it’s a couple wanting to de-stress from a hectic work week or a family simply looking to have fun on the beach, La Jolla has something for everyone. Since its opening in 2018, La Jolla is known for offering 5-star service to its guests at a 4-star price point.

The resort and hotel’s strategic location allows it to offer open sea water activities such as snorkeling, kayaking, and jet skiing. It also has three different pools for guests to enjoy. The main pool is the biggest with ample lounging area and can be a pool party venue. The smaller pool is situated near the villas and has a dramatic lighting at night. For a romantic sunset view, theinfinity pool is where you want to be.

In addition, it has a basketball court, an archery range, a tennis court, and a gym with ample equipment for anyone who wants to keep track on their physical health. Guests who wish to cycle around the paved pathways and challenging inclines in the resort can rent a bike, or ride an ATV along the beach.

La Jolla’s General Manager, Bollie Bolton, stated that the resort and hotel’s wide range of facilities and villas make it well-equipped to accommodate large groups or events. Plans to add more villas to increase the current 84 rooms are already in progress.

Guests who may become tired from the numerous activities at the resort can indulge in pampering and relaxation afterwards. La Jolla boasts its own Wellness and Spa center, which offers nail services, various types of massages, and a couples room with its own bathtub. The rejuvenating services can be enjoyed at the wellness and spa center or in-room for checked-in guests.

Food offerings at La Jolla are another experience. Guests can enjoy a relaxed dining experience at Bamboo Plate, where a variety of dishes curated by Chef Arnoldo “Abu” Fernandez are served. Highly recommended on the menu are his signature dish, fish (pampano) escabeche, bagnet kare-kare, and seafood paella

Meanwhile, the Molave restaurant offers guests the opportunity to experience fine dining at the resort. Chef Arden Daguia is responsible for creating the dishes. A new and promising addition to the menu is the Surf n’ Turf dish, which includes Roast Beef with Red Wine Sauce, Pan-Fried Salmon with Fish Velouté, and Duchess Potatoes.

A sustainable resort and hotel

When operations began, La Jolla has been implementing sustainable practices which include tree planting activities and having it’s own vegetable garden.

Due to the abundance of trees on the property, guests will experience the cool and calming atmosphere of the resort. Bolton remembered receiving feedback from a foreign guest who appreciated how the trees kept the resort cool during his two-week stay with his daughters.

“I think one of our advantage here is that we don’t cut the trees,” he added. “The owners would even hold a board meeting if a tree needs to be cut.”

Bolton also mentioned that they celebrate a “Pawikan Day” every January. This activity allows guests to participate and contributes to the thriving of marine turtles in the sea within their jurisdiction. The annual event is supported by the local government, and Bolton is proposing to extend it to a weeklong activity to promote marine life and environmental protection among everyone.
