Megaworld Hotels & Resorts, the Philippines’ largest hotel operator, has appointed Arturo “Art” Boncato Jr. as its Group General Manager. Boncato, a seasoned executive with nearly three decades of experience in the tourism industry, has brought his expertise to drive the company’s expansion and operations.

Boncato previously served as the Department of Tourism (DOT) Regional Director for Davao and later as the department’s Head of Tourism Regulation, Coordination, and Resource Generation. With a background in hotel operations, sales, and marketing, he held key positions within the Marco Polo Hotel Group and most recently served as the executive vice president and chief operating officer of World Trade Center Metro Manila.

In his new role at MHR, Boncato will focus on overseeing operations management and standardization across the company’s 12 properties strategically located in the National Capital Region, Batangas, Boracay, Cebu, and Iloilo. He will also play a crucial role in the preparation and opening of the group’s future hotel developments in the Philippines.

“MHR’s rapidly growing network of homegrown hotel brands and its deliberate effort towards being a formidable space in the hospitality industry is astounding. MHR is where the Filipino brand of service shines the brightest. The company is a sure magnet to many who yearn to make the Philippines a top-of-mind destination. I am drawn to this not as a vision but as an MHR reality,” Boncato said.

“We have lined up transformational changes in the company to support the growth and expansion of Megaworld Hotels and Resorts. A critical part of this journey is strategically the executive leadership team to boost the organization’s competitiveness and profitability. We are blessed to have the addition of Art Boncato to our roster of leaders and we are all excited to hit the ground running with him onboard,” Cleofe Albiso, Managing Director, shared.

By the end of 2024, MHR’s portfolio will expand to a total of 15 hotels and over 10,000 room keys, with plans to open three new properties, including the 1530-room Grand Westside Hotel in Paranaque in Q2, Chancellor Hotel in Boracay Newcoast offering 500 rooms in Q3, and Belmont Hotel Iloilo adding 404 rooms by the end of the year.
