Asiaworld Hospitality, the local representative of the American Hotel and Lodging Educational Institute (AHLEI), conducted its first Certified Hospitality Educator (CHE) training program last month.

More than 50 faculty members attended the series of intensive workshops including representatives from De La Salle – College of Saint Benilde, Lyceum of the Philippines University, University of Santo Tomas, Our Lady of Fatima University, Cagayan de Oro College – PHINMA Education, University of Iloilo – PHINMA Education and Woosung University of Korea.

AHLEI’s CHE is one of the most recognized credentials in hospitality  and tourism education and designed for post-secondary hospitality educators around the world. The workshops were conducted by Fr. Robert Steele, a Catholic priest from the Diocese of Auckland and currently a program leader and a senior lecturer in AUT University, School of Hospitality and Tourism in Auckland, New Zealand. He has a 30-year experience in the field of hospitality.

AHLEI, a 62-year old training arm of the U.S. hotel industry group, American Hotel and Lodging Association, has joined the list of foreign companies that are now in the Philippines to offer certification programs to professionals and hospitality educators. For the Philippines, AHLEI’s programs will focus first on schools as colleges and universities seek for stronger ties with the industry to match the employers’ requirements; and, as the hotel construction boom increases  competition, companies are looking for ways to improve their services.

Future distribution of AHLEI’s certification programs will be offered throughout the year by Asiaworld Hospitality. More information can be obtained at website asiaworldhospitality.com.
